Information GradeWise handles

GradeWise may process roster names or identifiers, assignment directions, rubrics, student responses, webpage content or screenshots selected by the teacher, suggested scores, feedback, and class-level learning patterns.

Storage and retention

Student rosters, submissions, approved results, and class insights use Chrome session storage by default. They are intended to disappear when the Chrome session ends. Reusable rubrics, settings, and the privacy-consent record are stored locally in the Chrome profile.

Optional AI processing

Demo mode sends no student data over the network. In OpenAI mode, teacher-selected assignment content, directions, rubric information, and grading context are transmitted over HTTPS to the OpenAI API solely to generate the requested result. Requests set provider storage to false.

Teacher approval

All scores and feedback are suggestions. Teachers review and approve each result. Direct Google Docs commenting and automatic gradebook posting are not included in the current release.

How permission data is used

Information obtained through Chrome permissions is used only to provide and improve GradeWise's visible grading, roster, feedback, insight, and export features.

Data is not sold or used for personalized, retargeted, or interest-based advertising.
Data is transferred only when necessary to provide a teacher-selected feature, comply with law, address security, or complete a business transfer subject to applicable requirements.
Humans do not read student content except with specific consent for support, for security or legal requirements, or after aggregation and anonymization for internal operations.
Exports occur only when the teacher intentionally requests them.

For educators and schools

Use GradeWise only when authorized by your school or district. Avoid unnecessary identifiers, verify every AI-generated statement, and store intentional exports according to applicable school, district, FERPA, privacy, and records-retention policies.
